The SYDNEY Necklace

I have been working on a very special project that is near and dear to my heart and I am THRILLED that it is ready to share with you all.  I have been collaborating with Charlotte, NC based jewelry company Towne & Reese on a necklace to honor an amazing mother, wife, friend, daughter, sister, and my former business partner, Sydney Boone Gaylord.

 



Sydney and I started BALBOA Jewelry together in 2000 out of a love for vintage jewelry and fashion. We spent an amazing couple of years traveling all over the country, finding materials, promoting the collection, and mostly just having a lot of fun.  Sydney had a way of making the people around her feel special and loved.  Time spent with Sydney, whether is was work or play, was time spent smiling and enjoying life.

Over the next few wonderful years, we enjoyed building the brand and creating a presence in high end boutiques and stores across the country, including Barneys New York.  Balboa Jewelry was also featured in Elle and Glamour magazines. We enjoyed this success and were fulfilled because we were designing, creating and developing a business while doing what we loved! 

 As the next chapter of Sydney’s life began, she decided to focus her amazing energy on her new business of being a mother to her now three precious children, Vail, Haven, and Boone. Three years ago, doctors discovered a significant tumor in Sydney’s brain that was determined to be inoperable.  With the same amazing courage and energy that she channeled into her career and motherhood, Sydney faced the challenge of her life in fighting cancer.  She remained positive and optimistic and continued to touch hearts of those with whom she knew and ones she met in this new phase of her life.

 

Sydney was an unbelievably magnetic personality, beloved by everyone with whom she came in contact.  This necklace was created to represent her dynamic, bright, wonderful life… and with the hope that our donation to KINDERMOURN will help her family and families like hers manage the loss of a loved one.

    This necklace reminds me of Sydney’s style…colorful and beautiful. It makes me smile. What a wonderful way to remember her. Hey, my birthday is January 25th the date it will be available for shipping. Maybe Sydney’s uncle, Mont Gaylord who is my fiance will think of both of us on 1-25-12. Hint, Hint. Thank you Jane Pope
